Louisiana Teacher Arrested for “Sexual Contact” With Underage Student

ST CHARLES PARISH — A Destrehan High School Teacher was arrested Tuesday evening, and booked on one count of carnal knowledge of a juvenile, according to multiple news reports. Sheriff’s authorities reported that 32-year-old Shelley S. Dufresne, 32, allegedly engaged in a sexual relationship earlier in September at a residence in Montz. Investigators learned of the suspected encounter on Friday, when school district officials contacted authorities after hearing a male student bragging to others that he was having a sexual relationship with his teachers. Dufresne is a 10-year veteran teacher at the high school, and is married with three children. The general age of consent in Louisiana is 17. However, a 2009 state law prohibits sexual conduct between an educator and a student aged 17 to 20.
