South Carolina Football Coach Arrested For Having Sex With Student
PICKENS, SOUTH CAROLINA – NBC News has reported a former assistant football coach at Pickens High School was arrested and charged with Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor and Sexual Battery with a Student. Police believe Joshua Bennett Dorr, 29, bought teenagers beer and had sex with a 17-year-old Pickens High School student at a party.
Dorr’s arrest warrant said he admitted to having sex with the student during questioning. Bond was set at $35,000. Dorr resigned from his position as assistant football coach on Monday.
CBS News reported that the South Carolina Department of Education has disciplined 17 teachers for sex offenses in the last two years. In 2010 South Carolina passed a law making sex between sex between students and school employees illegal, even if the student has reached the legal age for consent (16). Under the new law, any school employee who has sex with a 16 or 17 year old student may be charged with a felony, and face up to five years in prison.
