Prosecutors say New York-Presbyterian Queens hospital doctor Zhi Alan Cheng made videos as he sexual assaulted unconscious patients
CBS News reports that on Monday, August 7th, 2023, New York City doctor Zhi Alan Cheng was charged in connection with the alleged sexual abuse of at least six women. Prosecutors said that several patients were drugged, filmed, and assaulted during appointments at the prestigious New York-Presbyterian Queens hospital.
Cheng was arraigned on charges of sexually abusing three of his patients at New York-Presbyterian Queens hospital as well as raping three other women inside his Queens, New York apartment. Cheng, a 33-year-old gastroenterologist, was terminated in December from his job at the hospital after an arrest for allegedly raping a female acquaintance in his Queens residence. The woman told authorities at the time that she had discover videos of Cheng abusing other women and herself.
Evidence Seized Points to Serial Abuser
During a search of Cheng’s home and devices, investigators uncovered a cache of video evidence appearing to show the doctor abusing women at his workplace and inside his home. All women in the footage appeared to be unconscious, possibly due to the use of sedation. Drugs such as cocaine, ecstasy, and multiple types of liquid anesthesia were recovered from Cheng’s home.
The alleged abuse occurred between 2021 and 2022, but prosecutors suggest that evidence suggests that Cheng assaulted other women at various locations in New York City, San Francisco, and Las Vegas.
