San Diego Dental Assistant Accused of Sexual Assault of Minor Patient
This sounds like the story line of a Saturday afternoon movie on the Lifetime channel, but what local law enforcement is alleging happened last month is very serious and not fictional at all. San Diego Police say a minor female reported that she had been assaulted on January 21st while undergoing a dental procedure at the Park Boulevard Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Office at 4067 Park Boulevard. After an investigation, dental assistant Luis Ramos, 36, of El Cajon, was arrested and booked. The charges included two counts of sexual battery on a medically incapacitated person and two counts of oral copulation by means of anesthetic.
Although sexual assault while under medical sedation, is horrifying, it is not that uncommon. We are currently handling a civil case involving several women who were assaulted by nurse practitioner Jeff Sabino in Avenal, CA. In that case, we believe the community health center negligently supervised their employee. Negligent supervision is a common theme when a medical provider causes harm to a patient, intentionally or not.
It is unclear if Ramos has faced any disciplinary action in the past, but the concern in these cases is always that there are other victims. Anyone with information can call the SDPD Sex Crimes unit at (619) 531-2210. If you suspect you or your child may have been a victim of Luis Ramos, please call the law firm of Estey Bomberger at 619-295-0035.
