- MISSION VALLEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL (FREMONT)
41700 Denise St, Fremont, CA 94539
Mike Schoop, 65, a Pleasanton resident, was a teacher at Mission Valley Elementary School for more than 20 years when in 2000 a man reported to police that Schoop had sexually abused him in Oakland in the late 1960’s. The allegation was later recanted, but police found child pornography during the investigation and Schoop was convicted for that in state and federal court, and sentenced to eight months in federal custody and five years felony probation. In 2013, Schoop was trying to get that conviction wiped clean and his sex offender status revoked through a petition with Alameda County Superior Court in 2013, when the district attorney learned of allegations involving sexual misconduct involving Schoop and two different Mission Valley students. The statute of limitations had lapsed for one of the accusers, who said he was abused from 1983 to 1985 (John Doe 2), but prosecutors filed charges for the other victim who alleged abuse from 1998 to 1999(John Doe 1). Fremont police had first learned of John Doe 1 in 2010 from a medical professional who heard secondhand that the boy had been abused by Schoop, but the victim did not return a call from investigators and the case fell apart. When investigators contacted the victim a second time in 2013, he was ready to talk. Schoop pleaded no contest in February 2015 and in April 2015, he was sentenced to 16 years in state prison.
